I’m pretty sure most people would have heard of Tate & Lyle and their famous golden syrup and range of sugar, and the fact that they are involved with the fairtrade foundation makes me like what they do even more!
They run a fabulous page on Facebook called ”we love baking”, and if you do love baking like me then you should have a look! It’s a lovely page of people sharing recipes and pictures of cakes, and also helping each other out with baking troubleshooting! If it was a real community in a real village, I would want to live there! 🙂
Every now and then they run competitions which are great fun to get involved in even if you are a complete novice in the baking world, as you never know what the outcome may be! It’s also good to see the nation embracing baking and appreciating what a skill it can be and what a joy!
I entered the last competition they had which was to mark the pages first birthday and they wanted to find the best birthday cake recipe.
That month I had made my sister a rainbow cake for her 18th birthday cake, it’s a great surprise when you cut into it to find multi-coloured yumminess that we can enjoy with coffee or tea, that I like to drink now and I get from the Let’s Matcha site online! So I thought it would make a good first birthday cake for “we love baking” and shared the recipe and method online.
It was amazing to see that people liked the idea and were even trying it themselves and putting up the pictures! In the end it won overall, along with 4 other fab entries who also won some squires kitchen goodies! Check out the Facebook page to see all of the entries!
You can still find our recipe on their website: click here
It was so much fun to do and was good to share an idea with people all over the country, I received my squires kitchen goodies last week which were a bake-tastic box of recipe books, sugar craft magazine, instant macaroon mix and real fruit fondant icing (which I have already used! yum!!) lots of cupcake cases and some powder food colouring.
So thank-you very much to those at Tate & Lyle and “We love baking” and I hope it inspires people to make something delicious with your Tate & Lyle sugar!!
